Pressestimmen

"One neighbourhood, four couples, an amateur burglar and one dead body – this is a masterful whodunnit, perfectly paced and expertly plotted, that had me guessing all the way through. Like Desperate Housewives with bite. I loved it and couldn't put it down." (C. L. Taylor)"Shari Lapena just gets better and better." (Cara Hunter)"Exactly what I love in a book: a small cast, an intricate plot worthy of Agatha Christie, with characters who stay in my mind long after the novel has finished. As for her writing – it was just perfect, as though Anne Tyler had written a thriller. No greater compliment can be given!" (Mary Torjussen)"Shari Lapena has done it again. Someone We Know grabs you by the lapels on page one and doesn’t loosen its grip until the last sentence. Love the claustrophobic suburban neighbourhood where anything can happen behind those front doors." (Fiona Barton, bestselling author of THE WIDOW)"I fell hook, line and sinker for this book, only surfacing back to reality after the final page. Shari Lapena is a writer at the absolute top of her game. Someone We Know was masterfully plotted, the suspense ratcheted up with agonising precision and the ending so satisfying I wanted to flip back through the pages to see how she managed it. Brilliant." (Holly Seddon, author of TRY NOT TO BREATHE)

I just finished Shari Lapena's new book, Someone We know. This story begins with a mother who walks the line between protecting her teenage child and the morality of knowing he has broken into the neighbor's homes for the purpose of snooping around their computers, and for the challenge. The boy's parents decide not to go to the police but the mother's feelings of guilt for her son's behavior grow. To calm her conscious, one night she sneaks out and pushes an anonymous letter of apology under the door of the affected houses. The problems really start when we discover that one of the houses explored belongs to a man who has had some startling news; his wife was found dead. The teenage boys prints are all over the house of the murdered woman. Guilt is cast on several neighbors as the book progresses leaving the reader guessing, certain the killer is one person then the next, in this classic, suspenseful "who done it".The writing a good, as always, typical of Shari Lapena's past books. This one might be a bit faster read than her last, definitely a page turner as the tension grows. No rocket science here, just another solid story from this author. So far, I've read everything Lapena has written and she hasn't disappointed me yet.Think I'll go next door and borrow a cup of sugar, just to make sure they aren't up to no good.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Author Shari Lapena is a well-known author in the thriller genre. “Someone We Know” has a great premise that starts with a teenage kid breaking into houses in his well-to-do neighborhood just to snoop around and hack their computers. It’s all in good fun until a beautiful young wife goes missing. At this turn of events, the plot thickens. A once utopian neighborhood turns on each other as various husbands are suspect, wives are cheating, husbands are cheating, and the teenager knows some of the secrets. A well-told story and interesting ending. My only complaint was that I felt a wee-bit misled. I’ll let you see if you agree after your read the book. But, this is a good read, fun to figure out with lots of suspects, and a neighborhood that will never be the same. You just don’t know who to trust. @sharilapena @penguinrandomhouse @pameladormanbooks #book #books #thriller #read #reading #bookstagram #bookworm #lindaleereads2019 #killerthriller #bookworm IG: @bookbimbo

I've read all the other 3 books Shari Lapena has written and enjoyed them. This one I did not. Her writing in this one is very simple, without much character development. The characters were flat and uninteresting. Also, the narrative was repetitive. Not a realistic ending which was supposed to be surprising, but fell flat Not her best work.

“This is a very difficult letter to write. I hope you will not hate us too much. . . My son broke into your home recently while you were out.” In a quiet, leafy suburb in upstate New York, a teenager has been sneaking into houses—and into the owners’ computers as well—learning their secrets, and maybe sharing some of them, too. Who is he, and what might he have uncovered? After two anonymous letters are received, whispers start to circulate, and suspicion mounts. And when a woman down the street is found murdered, the tension reaches the breaking point. Who killed her? Who knows more than they’re telling? And how far will all these very nice people go to protect their own secrets? In this neighborhood, it’s not just the husbands and wives who play games. Here, everyone in the family has something to hide . . . You never really know what people are capable of.My Thoughts: When a woman is murdered in a quiet neighborhood in upstate New York, a chain of events is unleashed, moving across the streets and sweeping up the neighbors surrounding the crime victim, turning their lives on end.A teenage boy and his strange nighttime activities are revealed, another teen turns to alcohol to deal with an unknown stress, and each of the wives look with suspicion at their husbands as they are all called in for questioning and are under scrutiny for a time. How would the detectives sort out the truth from the lies? When everyone seems to have a motive, how will they finally catch the killer? The obvious perpetrator seems to be the husband, who is behaving very strangely. But then all of the other men have things to hide, too. A stunning reveal kept me intrigued with Someone We Know until the very end. 5 stars.

Solid, easy to fly through, page turner! Shari has my attention with every book she writes, and this one was no exception! In the opening chapter someone is murdered and we experience that murder through the eyes of the killer. Then we spend the rest of the book trying to figure out who did it!There’s a quiet neighborhood in upstate New York, but there’s a new couple, Robert and Amanda, and Amanda is very attractive and an unabashed flirt. Then she’s murdered. Did the husband, Robert, do it? Clearly, most husbands do. But did he? Or did neighbors Paul and Olivia or their 16 year old son, Raleigh, who’s been caught breaking into neighbors houses and poking around their computers? Or maybe more neighbors Glenda and Keith or their 16 year old Adam, who has recently spiraled out of control with his drinking? Could be the neighbors Larry and Becky. Robert knows Amanda was having multiple affairs, it was probably one of them, right? Detectives Webb and Moen have to figure it out.Super easy to read. I read 80, 80, 110, and 30 pages to finish it off.Who doesn’t love a good domestic thriller, murder mystery?5 stars!
